Every year I post a little note to let people know the disease lab is open. The fact is, the lab is ALWAYS open. To my wife's dismay, I'm on campus just about every weekday of the year- holidays being the few exceptions. December, March, July or August, I'm looking at disease samples. The last week of vacation I took was in 2007, and only because I was attending a pathology meeting in San Deigo. If you send me a sample, I'll do my best to look at it within 3 hours of receipt and I will call you immediately after I have looked at it. If I am off-campus, my extremly capable student will call me to let me know you've sent a sample. And I will come in on weekends to make sure you get a diagnosis. Never hesitate to call, I'll do me best to get back to you ASAP.

The URI Turf Disease Diagnostic Lab will be closed from April 1 until April 6, 2009. Any samples received during this time will be stored in refrigeration until April 7th.

Dr. Mitkowski will be away from the lab from July 30th until August 1st at the Annual American Phytopathological Society meeting. Samples will continue to be recieved during this time but limited diagnostic services will be available. All samples will be incubated until his return. On August 2nd, Dr. Mitkowski will complete diagnosis on all pending samples and superintendents will be promptly contacted.

With the departure of Dr. Gail Schumann from the University of Massachusetts, the URI Turf Diagnostic Lab will be accepting samples from UMASS customers until her lab is set up at Marquette University.
